A WOMAN patient attacked a fellow female patient at a Blackpool Hospital.
Deborah Mangham elbowed the other woman and then punched her in the chest.

Mangham, 31, of Windsor Road, Ansdell, admitted assault.

She was ordered to pay her victim £50 compensation and given a 12 months conditional discharge by Blackpool magistrates.

Pam Smith, prosecuting, said both women were patients in the Parkwood psychiatric unit, on October 14 last year.

Mangham walked up to the other patient and first elbowed her in the chest, then punched her.

The defendant did not speak during the unprovoked attack, which took place in front of a staff nurse.

Afterwards Mangham said she did it because the other patient was "too prim and proper" and because she "deserved it."

Gary McAnulty, defending, said his client had been receiving psychiatric care sine 1999.
