THE Guardian's Give Us A Map campaign has received the ultimate backing.
The Rev Kenneth Barratt, vicar of St George's CE Church on St George's Street in the town centre, has labelled the lack of an official map as a 'nuisance' and a 'farce'.
No new maps of Chorley borough have been produced since 1995 despite thousands
of new homes being built and millions of pounds of investment.
The Guardian believes Chorley Borough Council should produce a new guide and has launched its Give Us A Map campaign.
Mr Barratt said: "As the vicar of St George's, I need to be able to get around to see people. If someone needs me, how am I supposed to recognise a district, village or street for example without a correct map?
"Chorley is a growing, prosperous place but what sort of attitude does it put out to prospective residents?"
Rose Grime called the Guardian after a search of her house revealed some old copies of Chorley and district guides with fold-out maps.
Mrs Grime, of Southport Road, discovered a 24th edition, dating back to 1995 and priced at £1.10 and said: "They are so useful for knowing all sorts of things.
"I know there is the internet now, but a new guide would be very useful for people moving into the area, as well as those of us who have been here for ages."
The Guardian used to produce editions of the map itself, funding the venture through advertising and using Chorley-based printers.
Mrs Grime added: "I used to buy one every year and would definitely support a new one."
