A Chorley mum has vowed to fight boredom in a Chorley estate with her new morris dancing troupe.
Ally Heyes, of Thirlmere Road, is calling on girls of all ages to join Chorley Saints, the dance troupe that the mum-of-five has set up to give girls living in the Liptrott estate something to do.

Ally, who ran a morris dancing troupe in Blackburn before moving to Chorley, said: "Where I live there just isn't anything for girls to get involved in. The lads have their football but there isn't anything at all for the girls.

"My youngest daughter joined a morris dancing troupe in Blackburn but it was a long way to take her every week and so she asked me to set one up in Chorley - she was the real inspiration for the group.

"We have only been going for two months but we have had an influx of members joining us and we are already up to 30 dancers but we have space for lots, lots more."

Ally is helped by her pregnant sister Joanne Clare.

Speaking of the group, she added: "Toddlers can get involved and we even have a group for adults which mums can join too. Girls of any age can get involved and we have the senior team as well - the troupe really is for everybody.

"Morris dancing is literally taking up every second of my time at the moment but a parent has already stopped me to thank me for what I am doing, I was really touched and it makes it all worthwhile.

"I am hoping to enter the morris dancers into a competition in two months time and we'd love more girls from across Chorley to come along and get involved.

"Up to 12 dancers can join each team and at the moment we have about eight so we really do have plenty more room."

Ally is also asking other parents and volunteers to get involved by establishing a committee for the group that would be responsible for organising fundraising and events for the girls to enjoy as well as transport to and from competitions.

Chorley Saints meet every Wednesday night at the Eaves Green Community Centre from 5pm to 6.45pm. For more information contact Natalie Banks at the Chorley Guardian on 01257 264911 or visit their website chorley-saints.darkbb.com
