More than 30,000 people are expected to descend on Adlington this weekend for the village's biennial carnival.
Big name guests for the weekend include local lad Joe Gilgun, who plays Eli Dingle in the popular soap Emmerdale, and Hollyoaks soap star and Dancing on Ice runner up Chris Fountain.

They will be at the event to meet people and sign autographs.

The event kicks off on Friday with the ever-popular bingo, plus the Carnival's first ever beer festival with its specially commissioned 'Adlington Carnival Ale', in the marquee on the Carnival's Jubilee Playing Fields .

On Saturday, August 9, the parade with floats, bands, dancers, and carnival royalty from Adlington and the North West, will leave Park Road at 12.30pm making its way through the streets of Adlington and Heath Charnock ending up on the Jubilee Playing Fields for an afternoon of activities.

Joe Gilgun is expected to officially open the carnival at 3.15pm and there will be performances throughout the afternoon by the Derby Midshipmen Band, the Black Eagles acrobatic team, and the H and M Dog Display team.

There will be Carnival karaoke in the marquee on Saturday night, and an all-star cabaret with the Pure Bee Gees, Flashback and comedian Billy Flywheel at Adlington Community Centre, Railway Road.

The highlight of Sunday will be when Chris Fountain crowns the new Adlington Carnival royalty and hopefully puts in an appearance on the ice-rink which will be open to the public all weekend.

Also on Sunday there will be a car boot sale from 11am to 4pm, a farmers' market, a novelty dog show at 1.30pm, mums and dads races, the Reebok Rebels cheerleading team from Bolton Wanderers and Tony Christian's all action film stunt show.

The popular Gore and de Koning funfair opens on Thursday, August 7.

Admission to the field is by programme or patrons badge both of which are priced £3.50 and are available from shops in Adlington or committee members and valid for both days.
