Residents in Croston are warning of traffic chaos if plans for a major development in the village get the green light.
Developers Turley Associates want to build 32 dwellings and 21 apartments on the former Croston Timber Mill goods yard site.

The land has been derelict for years and while most people agree something needs to be done, they say not enough provision is being made for the extra cars the scheme will create.

David Price, 46, whose house in Langdale Avenue backs on to the proposed development said: "The plans show a lot of properties being put into such a small space.

"The developers removed the trees at Easter and I feel as though we have lost a wall from our house. At least if they had been there it would have been a barrier to the dust when they knock the buildings down.

"The sewerage and water system is stretched at the minute and with these dwellings there will be even more demand."

Meanwhile Teresa Blagden, 50, also of Langdale Avenue said: "We have lived here for 20 years and there has always been a bank of trees behind the house.

"It was attractive and it was nice to spend time in the back garden but the trees have been cut down.

"I am concerned about the parking around this area but it is an eyesore and something has to happen with it."

Croston Parish Council share the concerns over parking.

Coun John Kearton said: "Most people who are buying houses have two or three cars but the provision is only for 1.5 so it will add to the problem of no car parking spaces in the village."

Coun Kath Almond said: "We have no objection to development on this site but there is a lot of terraced housing in the area so we need some communal parking.

"The people living in these properties will probably use the railway station car park which is already busy."

Becki Haines, from the developers Turley Associates, said: "The planning application for the redevelopment of Croston Timberworks has been prepared in accordance with the council's design guidelines and the Lancashire Structure Plan.''
