Postcards of our history

Guardian reader Ian Bagshaw is passionate about Chorley – so much so that his printed address labels have the slogan 'NUTS ABOUT CHORLEY' emblazoned across the top of them.

However, Flashback is indebted to him for allowing us to print a selection from his wonderful postcard collection.

The pictures really provide a snapshot of Chorley life from way back when.

Mr Bagshaw, 64, from Euxton, collects anything from Chorley, including postcards, medals, cups, plates and badges.

He reckons he has about 1,000 postcards and recently bought some more from York – but doesn't know what they depict.

"The photos are dated between 1920 and the 1940s and I'm hoping they'll jog someone's memory," he said. "In the old days if it was a photograph it would be turned into a postcard. That's what makes collecting so fascinating."
