A woman walking home from bingo on Saturday night was robbed of £300 in cash despite refusing to let go of her handbag and struggling with her attacker.
The 40-year-old woman had reached the junction of Gillibrand Walks and Devonshire Road in Chorley when a man pushed her aside then stood in front of her.

He grabbed her handbag and tried to pull it off her but she refused to let go and struggled
with her attacker.

But police say in the struggle the man managed to unzip the bag, take out her purse and steal £300 in cash.

Sgt Andy Bramhall said: "The woman was not hurt but we would like any witnesses to contact us."

The attacker is described as 5ft 6in tall, aged about 22 to 25 years, of medium build with a tanned complexion with a small vertical scar on one cheek.

He was wearing a full length zipped dark hooded top, black woollen gloves, dark grey tracksuit bottoms and cream coloured trainers.

It is believed a second male was also involved and he was described as white European, of thin build, about 5ft 4ins tall, aged about 18 or 19 years and wearing a dark hooded top with a motif on the back, possibly a heavy rock symbol or eagle, who was also wearing gloves and black pants.

The incident happened between 9.35pm and 9.50pm on Saturday, August 30, and anyone who saw anything is asked to contact the police on 0845 1 25 35 45 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
