People living in a Chorley road have been left scratching their heads because they live in a street with two names.
Residents, motorists and walkers using Whinny Lane in Euxton are having to look twice as the road is also spelt with an additional 'e' on a second sign further down the road.

At one end of the road, which links Euxton Lane with Washington Lane, the sign says 'Whinny Lane', but at the other it says 'Whinney Lane'.

Residents living in the road say it could lead to problems with deliveries.

According to the latest edition of the Preston, Chorley and Leyland A-Z it is spelt 'Whinny Lane'.

A quick search of 'Whinny Lane' on the internet website Google Maps gives directions to the correct road, however, 'Whinney Lane' points to land off nearby Euxton Lane.

Mary Howes, 53, said: "I've lived here for 13 years but it is only recently that we have started walking round the area and have seen the mis-spelt signs.

"I've spoken to neighbours who have lived here for more than 30 years and nobody knows what the original spelling is.

"According to another neighbour the council have been drawing up plans in the local area and the name they are going off is 'Whinney' - which means a windmill or water pump.

"It is quite a tight, narrow road and at some point we think the original was with an 'e' until the sign got knocked off and replaced with the wrong spelling. Now it has just become accepted."
