A lucky Buckshaw Village couple were bowled over when they won a top competition at their favourite pub to dine with England cricketing legend Phil Tufnell.
Travel agent Wendy Dibble and her partner, Screwfix manager Sam Frisby, bagged the Come Dine with Me prize when Wendy’s mum entered in the nearby Marston’s-owned Bobbin Mill pub in Buckshaw Village.
The couple were whisked away at the weekend to charming 18th century coaching inn the Grouse & Claret set in the heart of the Peak District near Matlock, where they wined and dined with former cricketer turned Question of Sport and One Show star ‘Tuffers’.
Wendy, 27, said: “I couldn’t believe it when my mum gave us the prize. She said she wanted us to go because we never get the chance to do anything nice.
“It’s just so lovely to be able to relax and get a night away without having to worry about the cost. And dinner with Phil and all the other winners just made it a perfect evening - and weekend - for us.
“We’re not big cricket fans, but we did watch Phil win I’m a Celebrity so we had loads of questions for him!”
The prize draw was run by Marston’s Inns and Taverns in association with Hardy’s Wine the official sponsor of Channel Four’s Come Dine With Me.
Wendy’s mum Angela Dibble said: “Wendy’s been really good to us and she works so hard, but because of the times that we live in, never really gets a chance to spoil herself.
“We decided they deserved a night away.”
Bobbin Mill manager Gerard Barnes said: “Wendy and Sam are a lovely couple and come in quite often for a drink. We’re all delighted they won.”
