Brinscall Baths turns 100 years in old in June, and to celebrate people are being asked to share their memories of the baths.

To mark the landmark birthday, Chorley Council and Active Nation, which manages the borough’s leisure facilities on behalf of the council, are organising a family day on Saturday, June 25 and think sharing everyone’s memories will be a fitting way to mark the pool’s 100th birthday.”

Originally a gift for the mill workers from the owners, Brinscall swimming pool is located at Lodge Bank in Brinscall Village.

It has remained a focal point of the local community since it first opened on June 22, 1911, and was built to commemorate the coronation of King George V, which also took place on the same day.

In 2008, Chorley Council spent £190,000 to upgrade many of the facilities and make the building more energy efficient for future generations.

In the meantime, local people are being asked to come forward with their favourite memories of the pool and let the council and Active Nation know how Brinscall swimming pool makes you smile.

Whether it’s a memory of a swimming lesson, a fun splash session with your friends or from a time when you visited with your family – your stories are wanted.

All memories will go into a Brinscall centenary guestbook, which people will be able to view when they visit the pool and some stories may even feature in the Guardian and the Chorley Smile magazine.

Coun John Walker, who is responsible for leisure facilities in Chorley, said: “Local people have been using the facilities for years with many generations of the same family learning to swim there. We want to hear your stories To submit your memory, write it down and hand it into staff at Brinscall swimming pool or email them to contact@chorley.gov.uk.”

On Saturday, June 25, there will be plenty going on both inside and outside the pool to mark the centenary.

A special 1911 swimsuit race has also been arranged. Anyone can take part, but they will need to bring their own 1911-style costume. The fun starts at 10am and will go on until 3.30pm.

Anyone wishing to take part in pool activities at the 100th birthday celebration will need to book in advance.
