A pair of publicans were in shock after they returned from holiday to find their pub painted purple with pink spots.

This was the sight Denise and Stephen Potter were faced with when they pulled up to the Potters Arms on Brooke Street, Chorley.

They’d been away for two weeks and a group of creative customers decided to brighten up the popular pub.

“I actually really love it,” Denise said. “We drove up to the pub and just thought, ‘What on earth?’

“I’m very happy with it though, even though it was a huge shock!”

The family, including daughters Zoe Potter and Laura Fardoe, who were looking after the pub while their parents were in the Caribbean, are holding a charity fun walk on August 21, and have decided to keep the new pub’s new look until then.

Zoe said: “Some of our regular customers told me what they planned to do, but I thought it was a joke.

“It certainly stands out from other pubs in Chorley, and it’s attracting a lot of attention.”

One of the ‘artists’, Michael Croft, added: “The idea came after a friend and I had a few drinks one night, but we knew Denise and Stephen wouldn’t mind.

“It has caused quite a stir in Chorley and has put smiles on a lot of people’s faces when they drive or walk past.”
