SCOUTS and girl guides from Chorley celebrated the 30th anniversary of a performing group in style with a spectacular show at St Michaels’ High School.
Chorley Capers brings together more than 50 people aged between eight and 60 from local scout and guide associations to perform on stage.
The group meet up every other year and one of the producers Emma Hardacre managed to get a photograph of the first-ever Capers display back in 1981.
She said: “The Chorley Capers is a great because it gets the cubs, cub scouts, adventure scouts and brownies and girl guides together on one stage.
“The scouts are well-known for living life outdoors so the Capers gives them an opportunity to do something different and work as a team with new people.
“Kelly Hesketh and I have been in charge of producing the show this year and we took over from Susan Morrison who has been doing it for more than 20 years.
“One of the other members Paul Wareing has been involved since the group started in 1981 and I think he enjoys it so much that is why he continues to come back.
“It is really nice to see people staying involved after all this time and also new members coming into it.”
Even though the Capers meet up on stage every other year Emma says that the group keep their performing bug alive by doing pantomimes annually.
She said: “It takes a lot of hard work to make it a success.
“We have a team of people backstage helping with costumes and makeup and also others who specialise in the lighting, sound and publicity.
“The dress rehearsals went well and at the end of the show we had a slideshow of photos of each of the performances throughout the years so people can look back and remember.
“I hope that the Capers will be there in another 30 years.”
The Capers put on three shows last week with a mix of dance, sketches, songs.
Emma said: “Since the group was 30 years old we wanted to get a mix of music in that time.
“So we have Bad by Michael Jackson, dancing to Fame, and even some songs from Cats.”
