A Chorley children’s hospice wants to ‘make people stars’ by involving them in its sponsored walk next month.
Derian House Children’s Hospice is organising its second annual Starlight Stroll, on May 21, and is inviting people to sign up for the 10-mile walk.
Last year’s event saw over 300 people take part and £44,000 being pledged by sponsors.
Fundraising manager Susie Poppitt is looking forward to this year’s walk.
She said: “It’s such a great event - come and join us, it’s an amazing atmosphere.
“Families of children in the hospice, and some bereaved families, as well as people from the local community walked with us last year. It was their way of saying thank-you to the hospice.
“Our running costs this year are £2.6 million, and with statutory funding for only nine weeks of the year, we depend so much on events such as this.”
The stewarded event will include a magical midnight walk around Astley Village, Euxton, Yarrow Valley Way, Butterworth Brow, Chorley and Astley Park.
It coincides with the national awareness and fundraising event Children’s Hospice Week. This year’s theme is heroes, and Susie is hoping to see some familiar faces in the crowd.
She said: “You never know, we may even see some of our male walkers dressed in a Superman T-shirt with their Y-fronts over their trousers.”
The Starlight Stroll is open to people of all ages and fitness levels, however places are limited and allocated on a first come, first served basis.
Those attending the event will receive registration packs.Participants will meet for registration at the Coach House in Astley Park and warm-up with Derian House’s resident DJ in the Courtyard.
The event will finish at Café Ambio.
