Alarm over baby's pram
Being a mum isn't always easy - especially if you've bought a pram for your new-born baby and the product develops a fault after an accident.
Fidelis Doyle, from Coppull, had such a problem after buying a 300 pram from Mothercare in Preston.
The mum-of-three, of Grange Drive, drafted the Consumer Champion in.
Explaining what happened the 37-year-old said: "I got off the bus when my little girl was six-and-a-half months old and the top half of the pram came off as I got out.
"She fell out of the pram and could have injured herself, the pram has been broken ever since and I've tried to get a replacement but without success.
"I haven't used the pram again because I'm afraid for my daughter's safety.
"I went back to Mothercare in Preston and was told I couldn't exchange the pram because it was after the 28 days from when I bought it.
"After long discussions they gave me a replacement pram and told me they would investigate the particular make of pram and that I would hear by the end of May.
"I then got a report saying that it was not a manufacturing fault but that there was an issue with the safety of the pram.
"I've been waiting since then to get the problem sorted and I can't seem to get anywhere."
The Champ contacted Mothercare to find out what had caused the delay and unsatisfactory treatment Ms Doyle had received.
He managed to get her a full refund of the 300 and an admission from the firm that the delays in dealing with her query were 'unacceptable'.
A spokesman for Mothercare said: "Mothercare remains committed to offering the highest standards of customer service, although we acknowledge that in this instance Ms Doyle has not received the level of service to which we would aspire.
"There have been some delays in dealing with her concerns that we would recognise are unacceptable. For this reason, we will be offering Ms Doyle a full refund on her pushchair.
"Our technical experts at our head office have examined her pushchair and have been unable to isolate any manufacturing fault.
"We have not had any other issues with this model of pushchair.
However, we recognise the distress and inconvenience that this issue has caused and putting things right to Ms Doyle's satisfaction is our top priority."
On hearing the news, Ms Doyle said: "I'm very happy with the result from the Consumer Champion and am glad I got in contact. I can now get a new pram and it's great news for my baby as well."
