Appeal after fatal collision in Chorley

Police are appealing for witnesses after a 62 year old woman died following a road traffic collision in Chorley.

Just after 5pm on Wednesday, March 23, a Peugeot 106 was travelling along Bengal Street when it was involved in a collision with a female pedestrian.

The woman, who was from the town, was taken to Chorley Hospital where she was pronounced dead a short time later.

The two occupants of the car were also taken to hospital; the male driver was suffering from shock while the female passenger was treated for head and facial injuries, including a broken nose.

The road was closed for around four hours to allow accident investigation to take place.

Sergeant Dave Hogarth said: “A full investigation into the cause of the collision is now underway and I would appeal to anybody who may have witnessed it to contact police.”

A 20 year old man from Chorley has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has been released on bail pending further enquiries.
