Beatles nostalgia is just the ticket
A Chorley man has sold a 47-year-old ticket to see the Beatles for £700.
Back in 1962 the Fab Four – John, Paul, George and Ringo – had returned from a successful stint in Hamburg and already had a hit single under their belts when they made their Preston debut at the Public Hall.
Weeks later, they scored a number one with Please, Please Me and Beatlemania was born.
Now a rare ticket unearthed from the concert on October 26 1962 has been sold for 700.
Jason Cornthwaite, of memorabilia dealers Tracks in Chorley, who sold the ticket, said: "It's the only one known in the world.
"All the big groups of the 1960s played Preston at the Public Hall."
Hundreds of people attended the gig, which cost just six shillings (30p) a ticket.
The Beatles were not top billing for the night, having to settle for third place behind Mike Berry and The Outlaws.
The ticket also boasts of a licensed bar, non-stop dancing until 2am, running buffet and late transport.
As well as the ticket, collectors have also snapped up a signed photo of the band from the same night.
Unusually, George signed his autograph George McCartney instead of Harrison and it was sold, along with a letter of authenticity from the original owner, for 2,500.
Jason added: "George signed the name McCartney, saying he was Paul's brother."
The Beatles made a second appearance at the Public Hall, in September 1963. Jason is on the hunt for posters of the gigs – worth up to 5,000.
Anyone who has one, or any other items, can call Jason on 01257 269726.
