Four jobs have been saved after a businessman stepped in and reopened a closed shop in Chorley town centre.

Outdoor World on Chapel Street went into liquidation in December.

Former staff were facing the dole queue until jeweller Jag Patel came forward, relaunched the shop as Outdoor Land and took the existing staff back on.

Jag, who runs Krishan’s jewellery shop on nearby Market Place, said: “I have owned the property for two years and put it up for rent when the person who previously ran the shop left.

“But then I just thought, why don’t we do it ourselves?

“There’s nothing locally like that.”

Jag said he wanted the original staff – two full time and four part time – to return.

“I said, ‘why don’t you guys come back?’” he said.

“Without them, I don’t think I would have done it.

“They have lots of experience in the job. People know them.”

John Dimsdale, one of the co-managers at the shop, said: “It’s great. We opened last Saturday and we’ve had a lot of good messages from our old customers, lots of positive feedback.

“It’s certainly great to be back here.”
