Carnival raises thousands for charity

Thousands of pounds have been handed over to support the vital work of local charities, thanks to the efforts of a dedicated carnival committee and their supporters.

Adlington Carnival presented nearly £6,000 to a variety of causes to help transform lives in the community.

The money was handed out to the nominated charities at a special presentation event at St Paul’s Church Club.

Charity for the year Derian House received a cheque for £4,000 and £1,800 was divided between charities including SSAFA the armed forces charity, the Salvation Army, Legacy Rainbow House. A.D.H.D. Friends of Adlington Library, Adlington Junior F.C., Alder Hey Children’s Hospital (Jessica Crawford Fund), Adlington Heritage, Adlington & District in Bloom, School’s & Nurseries, Chorley Lions and Chorley Angels.

The family of Seth Fairclough also received a donation.

The committee raised the money from their programme of events throughout the year, culminating in the three-day annual carnival in July.

Spokesperson Alan Snape said: “Jennie Snape (Vice Chairperson), along with our carnival royalty for 2016, carnival queen Heather Kirkham-Spear, carnival princess Ruby Charnock and carnival pageboy James Mckone, were delighted to present a cheque to our nominated charity for 2016, Derian House, for £4000

“The 2017 Carnival will be held over the weekend of July 7, 8 and 9 and our nominated charity will be St Catherine’s Hospice

“Events have already begun to take place to raise funds for the 2017 nominated charity, commencing with a Ladies Afternoon Tea held recently at Chorley Golf Club which raised over £500.

“The Carnival Committee would like to thank everyone involved in putting on the 2016 Carnival, Most of all a big thank you to the people of Adlington and district for their support.”

The next event will be Santa together with his elves and sleigh touring the village selling raffle tickets for the Grand Christmas Draw.

Weather permitting Santa, his elves and sleigh will be in attendance along with other attractions on Sunday December 18, on Fairport car park, Adlington.

The draw will take place at The White Horse, Chorley Road, Heath Charnock, on Monday December 19 at 7.30pm.
