A Chorley couple have been seriously injured in a car accident on the M65 motorway.
The man and woman were travelling in a blue Peugeot 206 when it’s understood the vehicle lost control at around 10.15pm on Monday.
Police closed the westbound carriageway near junction five at Blackburn for three hours, and fire crews from Accrington had to cut the pair out of the vehicle.
The man is now being treated for spinal and facial injuries at the Royal Preston Hospital, after a spinal board was needed to transfer him into an ambulance.
The woman is at Royal Blackburn Hospital with cuts to her head and face.
The initial 999 call indicated that around 12 cars had been in an accident, but it’s now understood that no other vehicles were involved.
A spokesman for Lancashire Police said: “It’s thought the vehicle lost control and overturned. It came to a rest on the carriageway.
“Accident investigators worked on the scene for three hours.”
