A woman had to be cut free from her car after it was involved in a collision with a van on a main road in Buckshaw Village this morning (June 21).

Emergency services were called after reports of the collision between the Citroën C1 and van near to the traffic lights on Central Avenue shortly before 8am.

Drivers were forced to find alternative routes after a spillage from the van left cans, bottles and food items strewn across the street.

A police spokesman said the Citroën ended up on a nearby grass embankment and the female driver became trapped inside.

Fire crews from Chorley and Bamber Bridge used specialist equipment to rescue her from the vehicle.

The North West Ambulance Service took the woman to Royal Preston Hospital, and it is believed she sustained injuries to her wrist.
