Serious assault in Chorley leaves man fighting for his life

A man is fighting for his life after being seriously assaulted in Chorley town centre.

The 30-year-old was punched in the head by another man at around 4.20am on Sunday July 19, 2015 on the Flat Iron car park, near Booths supermarket.

We know there were a large number of revellers in the area at the time of the incident so if any of them witnessed what happened or events leading up to the assault.

He fell and hit his head on the ground, knocking him unconscious.

The man, who is from Wigan, was taken to the Royal Preston Hospital with “potentially life-threatening head injuries” and remains in a critical condition.

Detectives investigating a serious assault in Chorley are appealing for help to trace anyone who witnessed what happened.

It is thought that the potential offender walked from Applejax trying to engage in altercations with a number of other people before coming into contact with the victim on the car park.

A 19 year old man from Chorley was arrested and has since been released on bail pending further enquiries.

DI Philip Bowerbank of Preston Police said: “This is a serious incident and a man has been left with potentially life threatening head injuries.

“We know there were a large number of revellers in the area at the time of the incident so if any of them witnessed what happened or events leading up to the assault, please come forward as any information you hold could help us with our enquiries.”
