At around 8.50am this morning, police were called to Halfpenny Lane in Heskin to reports that a man, who is in his 60’s, had been found injured at the side of the road by a passer by near to the Delph Diver Training Centre.

On arrival, police and ambulance crews found the man and he was taken through to Southport Hospital with back and leg injuries.

Sgt Phil Elsden of the Road Policing Unit said: “The circumstances around what happened are still unclear but it is thought that the cyclist may have been clipped by a black car and so I would appeal for anyone who may have seen anything to come forward.”
