This early arrival to our shores could be another sign of a hard winter to come.

The pictured Berwick’s Swan has landed at Martin Mere wildlife sanctuary, weeks earlier than expected.

Wildlife experts believe that when migratory birds arrive early it is a sign of a harsh winter to come.

As reported in the Evening Post earlier this week, weather forecasters are predicting months of heavy snow for the country, which could start at the beginning of November.

Martin Mere’s previous record for early arrival of a Berwick’s Swan was on October 19, in 1980.
