A musical extravangaza at a Lancashire landmark has proved to be so popular that it is being expanded.

An extra day of entertainment is being added to Symphony At The Tower, meaning fans can enjoy three days of music next summer.

“Symphony has grown its audience each year while raising magnificent amounts of money for the hospice. We want to ensure its continued success and to reach as wide an audience as possible and therefore a three-day event gives us the opportunity to do that.”

Peter Taylor

The event is a fund-raiser for St Catherine’s Hospice and will be held at Hoghton Tower from Friday, July 1 to Sunday, July 3.

Lorraine Charlesworth, director of income generation at the Lostock Hall hospice, said: “We are delighted to announce the addition of a third night in 2016 when Symphony At The Tower, one of our longest-running and most special events, celebrates its milestone 21st birthday.

“We are looking forward to seeing Symphony fans old and new at what promises to be another extra special weekend, all in the name of a wonderful cause.”

Symphony At The Tower was started by St Catherine’s as a one-day live music event in 1995 and was extended to two days when music promoters Cuffe and Taylor joined forces with the hospice in 2013.

This year’s event saw more than 10,000 people enjoy rockers Status Quo on the Friday night followed by a picnic proms-style concert with Lucy Kay and Blake on the Saturday.

Next year will see acts perform on the Friday and Saturday, with the Sunday being billed as the Symphony Spectacular.

Cuffe and Taylor director Peter Taylor said: “We are thrilled Symphony At The Tower is going to be a three-day event in 2016. It makes complete sense to add an extra date as the past three years working with St Catherine’s Hospice have gone really well.

“Symphony has grown its audience each year while raising magnificent amounts of money for the hospice. We want to ensure its continued success and to reach as wide an audience as possible and therefore a three-day event gives us the opportunity to do that.”

The initial line-up for Symphony At The Tower will be announced soon.
