Chorley paramedic Daniel Page looked like any other proud father as he held his newborn son Thomas.
But, just eight weeks after this photo was taken, he collapsed and died. He was 31.
His devastated wife Anne, of Countess Way, Euxton, has spoken for the first time of the tragedy after an inquest found that her husband died of a heart condition called coronary artery atheroma.
It was the same condition that claimed the life of his uncle at the exact same age.
Anne, whose son is now five months old, said: “It was as though Dan was riding the crest of a wave.
“That’s how his best man had described it when he died, and I didn’t understand at the time because I was so heartbroken, but now I do.
“Tom was the final piece of the puzzle and Dan was complete. He had everything he ever wanted, me, his job and Tom – life couldn’t have been more perfect.
“Tom may have only been eight weeks old, but for those eight weeks he was the best dad in the world.
“Every picture we have of when Tom was born shows Dan holding him, and the second he woke up or Dan came home from work he would be holding him and telling him that he loved him.”
Recalling their final conversation in January, she said Dan kissed both Anne and Thomas before leaving their semi-detached home to set out on a bike ride in Rivington.
“He had told us he loved us and then disappeared on his bike,” Anne said.
