A car was badly damaged when it set on fire on the M65 motorway.

The Alfa Romeo 147 caught light on the westbound carriageway between junction two for the M61 and junction one for Bamber Bridge shortly before 6.55pm today.

One lane of the motorway was closed and traffic was moving slowly as firefighters put out the blaze.

The police and Highways England also attended.

The fire, which was believed to have been started by a vehicle fault, caused severe damage to the front of the car.
