A devoted dad who used to go fishing with his son every weekend is hosting a fundraising match in his memory.
Paul and Susan Bottomley tragically lost their 15-year-old son Mark in December. Unbeknown to him he had a heart virus, and died during the night.
Paul now fishes without him, and has decided to hold a memorial fishing match to help raise money for the SADS (Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome) charity.
He said: “Mark loved to fish, and we’d been going together every weekend since he was a little boy.
“We went all over the country, and sometimes he’d just sit and watch me.”
The match is being held at Banister House Fishery, near Southport, which was one of Mark’s favourite spots.
“He won a senior match there once, after getting the best weight of the day,” Paul said. “He was only a junior, but he was better than some of the seniors.”
Banister House Fishery also has a plaque on display for the tragic Southlands pupil. The event is on June 26 from 9am until 4pm, costs £20 per person.
