A GP surgery which opened earlier this year has already been nominated for a top award.

Leyland Surgery, on West Paddock, has been shortlisted for the GP Surgery of the Year Award in the General Practice Awards 2013.

The site, which opened in April, now has 4,000 patients and more services have been added to the facility over the last six months.

Practice manager Suzanne Clitheroe said one of the surgery’s strengths is the way the doctors treat patients with long-term conditions to reduce the need for multiple visits to the surgery.

She said: “We are the first practice in Leyland to offer a complete service for patients taking Warfarin in a ‘one stop’ clinic, where they have their blood tested, doses changed and next clinic appointment given.

“This gives much greater control of potentially harmful medication, giving patients greater peace of mind. We are hoping to expand this service.

“We are also starting to expand our family planning clinic to meet the demand for our population and our fully equipped, state-of-the-art treatment and minor operations room allows us to offer a wider range of interventions for our patients.”

She added: “Even though we have only been open for such a relatively short period, we are incredibly proud and excited that we have been shortlisted for the national GP Surgery of the Year
Award.”

The awards ceremony takes place in London next month.
