Mrs Fishman, who passed away on February 25, was the original chairman of Home-Start Chorley and South Ribble when it started in 1996 alongside vice chairman Jenny Kretz and trustee Jeannie Stirling.

She was also the chairman of Chorley Well Women Centre in its early days and was a long-standing and enthusiastic member of the Labour Party.

A charity spokesman said: “Shirley was a very enthusiastic and special person who really wanted to make a difference to people’s lives and she was certainly instrumental in making Home-Start Central Lancashire the successful charity it is today.

“She will be sadly missed but always remembered with great affection by everyone who worked with her at Home-Start in the early days.”

Shirley lived in Heskin with her husband Al but moved down South after his death to be near her daughter Ruth.
