A RIDER says she and her horse had a lucky escape after a passing HGV wagon caused the horse to be startled.
Kim Begley, 35, Goose Green Avenue, Coppull, was riding her horse, Beauty, down the one-track Green Lane when she says the noise of a refrigerated wagon coming from behind them caused the horse to fall into a 4ft ditch.
As a result of the horse getting out of the ditch, Kim suffered bad bruising to her back and sprained her knee.
She said: “I was just lucky my horse didn’t land on top of me.
“I knew this area was an accident waiting to happen and it has.
It is only a matter of time before this happens to someone else.”
Coun Ken Ball, for Coppull, has been in touch with Kim over the incident.
He says he also has concerns over the road and wagons using it.
He said: “Around 80 vehicles use this road all day everyday.
“That road is not suitable for wagons and this incident proves that.”
Kim was with two other riders at the time of the accident, who managed to pass the wagon.
Coun Ball said: “She was very lucky not to be injured or even worse killed.”
Kim, who is an experienced rider, said Beauty was shaken up and was still nervous when a friend took her out for a horse ride the following Saturday.
