BAE Systems bosses have confirmed late-night flying sessions will take place in the next two weeks for technology tests.

The firm will undertake eight night-flying sorties.

The flights will be carried out from its aerodrome in Warton, starting today and running until Thursday, April 21 and from Monday, April 25 until Thursday, April 28.

It is undertaking a number of tests on the pilot’s helmet technology within its Eurofighter Typhoon jets.

The tests need to be carried out at night.

Chief Test Pilot Steve Formoso said: “These tests can only be carried out during the hours of darkness and therefore the jets will be taking off from Warton between 7 and 9pm. The majority of these flights will take place over the Irish Sea and, as always, we will do our utmost to avoid any disturbance to people in Lancashire.”

It is anticipated the flights will be completed by 11pm each night.
