Staff at Botany Bay had a smashing time when they attempted to break a world record.
They wanted to beat the Guinness World Record for the highest number of pumpkins smashed in a minute.
The existing record was 11 pumpkins, set by television presenter Ben Shephard, who wished them good luck via social networking website Twitter.
Lee Speakman, security supervisor, got to work smashing the pumpkins, watched by witnesses, timekeepers and a steward.
He smashed 13 pumpkins in a minute and is now waiting for official confirmation that he has broken the record.
It was held as part of a week-long pumpkin festival at the centre.
Rowena Allen, marketing manager at Botany Bay, said: “We’ve had a great pumpkin festival and wanted to celebrate the end with something really special.
“Getting an official Guinness World Record would be amazing.”
