Lee aims to be an all-round attacker

Chorley young gun Jimmy Lee has insisted he's still got a lot to learn, despite putting in some stellar performances for the Windsor Park outfit.

The 20-year-old has become a spearhead for Chorley's bowling in his first full season in Division One of the Northern League, taking 30 wickets in all competitions this year so far.

Lee has captured two five-wicket hauls this season, including a best of 6-42, but he insists he has to be more consistent.

He said: "I've been a bit hit and miss this year. I've played really well at times and then at other times - such as at Netherfield - I've felt disappointed.

"Coming into the first team has been a challenge as the standard is a lot higher, but I'm learning to adapt my bowling.

"In the first team you can't bowl a bad ball, although you might get away with it in the second XI. In the first game of the season against St Annes I got five wickets but I went for a lot of runs off Stephen Twist. There's no margin for error.

"I've been able to get advice from a few of the more senior lads here. The professional Chris Hartley has been great.

"Playing in the first team and getting 6-42 (against Blackpool) at my home ground was a great moment. I've been to watch Chorley play a lot of times, so to be out there doing it myself is great."

One area Lee is keen to improve is his batting as the student continues to establish himself as an all-rounder.

He's scored some important runs at the end of the innings but admits there's a long way to go.

"Obviously, being a bowler, my batting isn't great and it's difficult to get runs when you bat so far down the order, but I'm trying all the time to get better," he said.

Lee, who is studying economics at Lancaster University, added said: "We've got a young side, but we are all confident in our team's ability. I don't see why we can't win the league. Of course, we're making sure we don't get carried away."
