A Chorley man has donated over £1,000 of bedding sets to Derian House Children’s Hospice after he put out an appeal to local schools and businesses.

Adam Rigby visited the site in Astley Village earlier this year and was struck in particular by how much bedding they go through, as each set has to be boil washed as part of strict infection control. He set about contacting schools, nurseries and businesses throughout Chorley and was overwhelmed by the response.

In addition to the masses of new bedding that arrived, a donation of £400 of arts and craft supplies was made by Tesco in Chorley. TVS Supply Chain Solutions in Buckshaw Village heard about the appeal and made a cash donation, as did Cisco Systems, who are Adam’s employer. Children at Parklands High School in Chorley also raised funds to buy 15 sets of bedding.

Sophie Saunders, fundraising manager at Derian House, said: “We are very grateful to Adam because he put in such a lot of hard work in a very short space of time and the bedding and donations we’ve received will make such a huge difference to us.

“He is a truly inspirational figure because he decided to just go out there and fundraise in a really energetic way and not take no for an answer. Thank you as well to all the schools and businesses who responded to his appeal - we couldn’t do what we do without you.”
