Standing on the Victory Park turf it’s the team that Chorley FC manager Garry Flitcroft is hoping can secure the future of the Magpies.
The former Blackburn Rovers captain went public last week with size of the club’s financial problems.
The players haven’t been paid for a fortnight and, unless the club can raise an immediate £20,000, he may have to let half his team go after Saturday’s game with Nantwich.
In a desperate attempt to avoid a complete financial meltdown, he’s joined forces with the Guardian to launch our Save Our Magpies II initiative.
Chorley Borough Council, Chorley Building Society, Chorley Community Housing, Chorley Nissan, and GDW Engineering have already pledged their support, but the appeal is going out to other businesses and schools to get involved. One suggestion is to hold a series of Black and White Fridays between now and the end of the campaign when people make a donation to Chorley FC’s coffers in exchange for wearing black and white of their favourite football top.
Now the board of directors at Chorley Football Club are urging all fans to an open meeting this Wednesday, December 7, to discuss ways of helping the club overcome its financial problems.
The meeting – to be held in the social club at 8pm – is open to all supporters.
The board plans to outline the current financial situation, and there will also be an opportunity for fans to share any ideas they may have to help bring in much-needed funds.
Chairman Ken Wright said: “The club finds itself in an extremely difficult situation, and we are keen to hear from any supporters who may be able to offer help, whether that’s financial support or fundraising ideas.
“There is a serious shortfall in our finances, so it’s vitally important we all pull together and ride out this situation.
“We will do our best to address any questions the supporters may have, although I must stress we are bound by certain legal restrictions.
“We urgently need people to rally around the club.”
