Blackpool's Hollyoaks star's World Cup song
BLACKPOOL star Sonny Flood is in fine voice as he launches a bid for the World Cup number one.
The 20-year-old Hollyoaks actor has joined castmates from the hit teen soap to record a the single 'Sing For England'.
Not only does he hope the track will spur on our England boys – Beckham, Gerrard, Rooney and Lampard – he wants to raise bucket loads of cash for charity.
And former Rossall pupil Sonny, who plays Josh Ashworth, is also hoping the song goes right to the top of the charts.
He said: "It would be really great if it got to number one but we're just looking to raise as much as possible for the charity.
"We had a great laugh making it. We filmed it live on the Hollyoaks set and it involved all the lads. There was a really good atmosphere."
The single, the brainchild of Hollyoaks stalwart Nick Pickard, who plays restaurant boss Tony Hutchinson, will raise cash for the Alder Hey Imagine Appeal, which raises cash for the Liverpool hospital.
And Sonny is urging all his Fylde coast fans to get behind the song.
He said; "I would absolutely urge everyone on the Fylde coast to buy the single. It's a great appeal."
Sonny, who has starred in the Channel 4 soap for the last five years, has also announced he will be leaving the show in the coming months.
Staying tight-lipped about the plot leading to his exit, the Blackpool lad admitted he is "excited" about what the future holds.
He said: "I'm not leaving for the next few month. I spoke to the producer and we came to a mutual agreement.
"I will be very sad to leave and I've loved working with everyone.
"I've made so many friends over the last five years but it'll be nice to move onto pastures new and an exciting time."
Sing For England will be available to pre-order in May.
