Plans to redevelop a village eyesore have been welcomed by a Chorley councillor.

Chorley Community Housing is set to submit plans that would see eight bungalows built on the old Willows site on Dickens Road, Coppull.

Should the plans be accepted, CCH hopes to start work on the site in the spring of 2014.

In 2010, residents at sheltered housing flats The Willows protested after CCH announced it was to close.

Despite the support of Chorley MP Lindsay Hoyle, the home was bulldozed by contractors 18 months ago.

CCH did set out to convert The Willows into a number of large flats, but a study showed it was not feasible to do this.

Since the property was bulldozed, there have been many anti-social offences at the site.

After hearing news about the revised development, borough councillor Matthew Crow has praised the plans.

He said: “I am reminded how defeated we felt to see the demolition of The Willows in Coppull last year.

“Since that time the site has remained vacant and we have dealt with a number of ongoing anti-social behaviour problems it has attracted.

“Earlier this year, fellow councillor Robert Finnamore and I contacted CCH to attempt to work with them on developing this site.

“I am now extremely pleased to see the proposal which has emerged as a result of their work.”

CCH insists it will maintain the plot of land on Dickens Road.

Richard Houghton, CCH director of operations, said: “The site will still be maintained by CCH until such time as development starts. People interested in a bungalow at The Willows should register on the Select Move scheme.

“We anticipate advertising the properties, when Select Move applicants will be able to bid on them, about six to eight weeks before they are due to be handed over.
