Chorley FM 'inundated' with help

Chorley FM say they've been overwhelmed with offers of support since the Guardian revealed the cash-strapped station could close in months.

Earlier this week we reported how the station - made famous by Peter Kay and his fellow creators of Phoenix Nights - is in danger of being shut down by a funding crisis.

Bosses at the station, which broadcasts on 102.8fm, say they need more than 12,000 a year to stay afloat.

Following publication of the story, volunteers at Chorley FM say they've been inundated with offers of support from local businesses, councillors and the public.

Allan Scott, co-founder and presenter, said he was touched to by the messages of support.

"It's been overwhelming but if we don't raise a significant sum of money we'll be like the dodo - extinct.

"The support has come as a real boost for everyone at the station but we are still searching for the cash lifeline to secure our future."
