Chorley hit by spate of car crime

Police in Chorley are warning people to be extra vigilant following a spate of vehicle crime in the area.

Between 1 January and 1 March 2010 there have been 13 separate incidents in the Clayton-le-Woods and Whittle-le-Woods areas.

Of these incidents, at least six vehicles had been left insecure and had property stolen from them including Satellite Navigation systems, CDs and MP3 players.

Three of the incidents refer to theft of scooters which had been left parked outside the home addresses in full view with no added security and have simply been wheeled away.

Community Beat Manager for Clayton-le-Woods, PC Lisa Hough, said: "From the recent spate of vehicle crime it would appear that there is an opportunist thief in the area who is trying door handles and taking what has been left inside vehicles.

"I would urge people to be extra vigilant and make sure that their vehicles are locked and secure at all times and not to leave any valuables on show."

Police have also issued crime prevention leaflets to people living in those areas encouraging them to be on their guard.

Anyone with any information about vehicle crime in their area should contact police on 08451 25 35 45.
