Chorley illustrator '˜ecstatic' to be up for national Freelancer of the Year Awards

Emmeline Pidgen, from Chorley, is one of fifteen finalists for the awards, hosted by the Association of Independent Professionals and the Self Employed and QA.

The 28-year-old illustrates books, graphic novels, editorials and advertising and has illustrated six published picture books so far.

The Guardian, BBC Radio 4 and The Scotsman have all featured her work, and it has been stocked in Selfridges, Waterstones and the V&A.

Emmeline said she is “ecstatic” to have been chosen as a finalist for the awards

She said: “It’s so exciting to be part of an event that highlights the importance and vibrancy of the UK’s freelance community.

“I’ve worked incredibly hard to get to where I am in my illustration career and to make a living doing what I love, so it’s humbling to have my passion recognised and supported through these awards.”

Commenting on her nomination, IPSE CEO Chris Bryce said: “It’s important to recognise the people who choose to be their own boss and celebrate their successes.”

The winner will receive £5,000 to help fund their business and will be announced in a ceremony in London on Thursday.
