Chorley students celebrate best ever GCSE results
There were scenes of jubilation right across Chorley as hard working youngsters celebrated their best ever GCSE results.
Elated students gasped as they opened their results in front of proud parents, teachers and friends.
There was tears of joy at St Michael's High School, in Astley Road, as overwhelmed pupils smashed the school's already outstanding pass rate with a staggering 95 per cent of leavers achieving at least five GCSE passes at A* to C.
Amongst the top of the class were Hannah Bradley, who racked up an impressive 11 A* and two As, and Zac Howe, who matched her 11 A* and also got an A.
Collecting his results, Zac, of Dry Field Lane, Rivington, said: "I've not taken it in yet and it doesn't seem real. I can't believe how many A* I got, but it means I will now be able to go to Runshaw College and follow my dream of becoming a vet in the future."
St Michael's headteacher Chris Bagguley was at the school early to welcome the droves of nervous teenagers who were anxious about collecting their long-awaited results.
He said: "Staff and governors at St Michael's Church of England High School have always been incredibly proud of their pupils. Education is not just about examination success, but also about young people growing into responsible, caring young adults with the confidence and self esteem to play an empowered role in the community.
"The school's motto of 'Therefore Choose' signifies the importance of the Christian foundation of the school in supporting pupils to do their very best."
