Chorley soldier campaign wristbands launched

Today the Guardian is calling on our readers to show their support for soldiers in Afghanistan by wearing one of our new wristbands.

The navy blue wristbands carry the name of our 'We Salute You' campaign on them and we're calling on the people of Chorley and Leyland to

wear one with pride.

The wristbands and customised keyrings are available directly from the Guardian's office or by sending a SAE to us at our Market Street office.

There is no cost but people are being invited to make a donation,

which will go towards the charity Help for Heroes (H4H), which helps care for wounded soldiers.

The idea of the wristbands has been made possible by the generosity of the Chorley based solictors Marsden Rawsthorn.

Their commercial law specialist Gawen Ryan said: "Marsden Rawsthorn Solicitors are pleased to be involved in the Chorley and Leyland

Guardian's 'We Salute You' campaign to show our support for those from the Chorley and Leyland area who are suffering as a result of their service.

"Paul Ridehalgh, a partner in the firm, knows what it is like to lose a family member in service. His nephew Stephen Wright, (who was from Leyland), recently lost his life whilst serving in action."

Mr Ridehalgh added: "Our family are pleased that Marsden Rawsthorn has chosen to support the Guardian's 'We Salute You' campaign and the

efforts of 'Help for Heroes' the charity to which the campaign donates."

Guardian editor Chris Maguire said: "These wristbands look fantastic and we're indebted to Marsden Rawsthorn for agreeing to pay for them.

"Our 'We Salute You' campaign has really captured the public mood in Chorley and Leyland.

"I would ask everybody to get get a wristband and wear it with the same pride our men and women are showing in Afghanistan on a daily basis."

Help for Heroes (H4H) was founded by Bryn and Emma Parry after a profoundly moving visit to Selly Oak Hospital in the summer of 2007.

Bryn and Emma met some extraordinarily brave young people who had been badly wounded and felt just wanted to do something to help.
