Chorley striker Fearns charged

Chorley's star striker Terry Fearns has been charged on suspicion of drugs offences following a series of police raids.

The 32-year-old goal ace, from Lincoln Green, Maghull, in Merseyside, was arrested on Tuesday just hours before he was supposed to play in his team's 1-1 draw with Prescott Cables.

Now, after 24 hours being questioned by detectives on Merseyside, the former Wigan Athletic star has been charged with conspiracy to supply class A drugs.

He appeared at Liverpool Magistrates' Court on Thursday, (November 26) and was released on conditional bail to reappear at Liverpool Crown Court on December 9.

He must surrender his passport, pay a 7,500 assurance, reside at his home and appear at Coppy Lane police station every Tuesday and Friday.

Seven other people between the ages 20 and 49 have been charged with the same offence and a 23-year-old man has been charged with possession of a shotgun.

Chorley FC has now suspended Fearns, who joined the club in the summer from AFC Telford, to allow the legal proceedings to run their course.

Ken Wright, chairman of the Unibond First Division North Club, said: "We are now aware of the circumstances surrounding Terry Fearns' recent arrest and charges.

"It is inappropriate for him to continue to play for the club and he has been suspended and fined until further information is available and legal advice sought."

The player, who is Chorley's top scorer this season with 14 goals, has not been in touch with Chorley FC.

In his career Fearns has played for Marine, St Helens Town, Droylsden, Southport and Vauxhall Motors, where her netted 111 goals in three seasons.

He has previously spoken about making a living from breeding dogs.
