Clean up this mess!
Council chiefs in Chorley have told builders working on the site of a new £1.2m golf clubhouse to tidy up their act after an outraged dog walker took damning photographs.
The new clubhouse at Duxbury Park Golf Club, near Myles Standish Way and Chorley's River Yarrow, will be open to the public next Friday.
It is being run by Glendale Golf in conjunction with Chorley Council and the area around it is popular with naturalists and dog walkers.
Lewis Hookdale, 33, who lives nearby, contacted the paper after spotting crushed flagstones, plastics and concrete paint in woodland close to the clubhouse.
The council says the rubbish was dumped within the confines of the building site, but have now told the contractors to clear up their mess.
Coun John Walker, Chorley Council's executive member (people), said: "The area where the waste was found is Chorley Council land. It is currently a construction site and is restricted to members of the public for safety reasons.
"We have discussed this issue with the contractors and they have assured us that they will dispose of their waste responsibly and it will be cleared by the time the contract ends."
Dave Prescott, Glendale Golf manager at Duxbury Park Golf Club, said: "Like every construction site, there is a degree of temporary storage required as the project moves forward.
"We do not consider the materials to be waste, but they are in fact being stored temporarily in order to allow us to recycle them to use elsewhere on the golf course. The materials will be used for things like new tee beds, which are part of the overall project to upgrade the golfing facilities."
