Dirty dog owner fined
A dog owner who failed to clean up after his pet in a Chorley park has been fined £150.
Adrian Davis, 45, of Gilbert Street, Chorley, was found guilty of letting the dog foul the land after failing to pay a fixed penalty notice issued by Chorley Council.
South Ribble Magistrates heard that Davis had been walking his German Shepherd dog in Rangletts Recreation Ground, off Duke Street, and was spotted by a council officer making no effort to clean up after his pet.
When approached by the officer Davis said that he did not have any bags to clear up the mess but that they were in his other jeans, the court heard.
Davis was handed a 75 fixed penalty notice and given a bag to clear the dog mess.
Despite repeated attempts to by the council to sort out payment the fine remained unpaid and further action was taken.
Councillor Eric Bell, who is responsible for tackling dog fouling at the council, said: "If people don't clean up after their dog it can make the place look a mess and cause serious health problems.
"In this particular case the dog muck was left in a park not far from a play area so children out playing could easily step in it or pick up an infection.
"Dog fouling is one of the issues that really annoys residents and our 'Don't be a dirty dog' campaign has been really successful in educating people about the need to clean up after their pets.
"Irresponsible dog owners who don't pick up after their dog will be prosecuted. If you see someone who lets their dog foul and doesn't clear it up report it to us on 01257 515151 or www.chorley.gov.uk/dogfouling."
Davis was fined 150 in his absence at court and ordered to pay 295 costs and a 15 victim surcharge.
