Young and old put their rhythm to the test when they took part in the sixth annual Big Drum Day.

The Afro-Brazilian and Afro-Cuban festival of percussion, song and dance saw some of the UK’s leading samba bands and dancers perform at Chorley’s Astley Park on Sunday.

There were performances throughout the day, by artists including Rhythm Alley, Nova Guarda, Batala Lancaster and Zun Zun Afro Cuba.

And the audience got the chance to play samba themselves when they took part in a drumming workshop.

The event was organised by Chorley-based SambAfriq and was well-attended, despite the threat of rain.

Stephen Dyson, treasurer of SambAfriq, said: “We had various drumming groups playing, and they were supported by dancers from around the country.

“Everything was really good.”
