Drunk yob fractured victim’s jaw in brawl
Preston Crown Court
a MAN who broke another man’s jaw has been spared jail.
Judge Simon Newellsentencing, told Jamie Mallon there was a very tight line between a jail term and a suspended sentence.
“You have walked very close to the edge”, the judge told Mallon.
Preston Crown Court heard Mallon, 19, punched his victim in the face during a night out in Chorley town centre.
Mallon and Kieron Baron had been in a group walking from the George pub to Applejax when two other members of the group started having a drunken row.
Kieron intervened, in an attempt to clam the situation down, but Mallon told him “I’ll leather you”, before punching him to the side of he face.
Other members of the group heard “a sickening crack” and a few minutes later the victim fell to the floor. Witnesses said it appeared Kieron had lost consciousness.
Kieron was taken to hospital and was found to have a fractured jaw, which required surgery and the insertion of two metal plates.
He was off work for a month following the attack, the court heard.
Michael Hagarty, defending, said Mallon, of St Peters Street, Chorley, accepted he should never have struck his victim and said: “He got involved in other people’s business when he shouldn’t have.
“It was drunken nonsense between others that he became involved in and acted wholly inappropriately.”
Mallon pleaded guilty to inflicting grievous bodily harm (GBH).
He was handed a 12 month sentence suspended for 12 months and ordered to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work.
He must also undergo 12 months supervision and remain at home between 9pm and 5am for four months.
