Ex-bouncer on murder charge
A former ambulance technician accused of stabbing his ex-partner has appeared in court charged with her murder.
Jonathan Vass, 30, stood in the dock at Blackpool Magistrates Court flanked by security staff for his brief hearing on Thursday.
Vass's sister and brother-in-law watched the proceedings from the public gallery.
Vass, who gave his address as his parent's home in Conway Drive, Fulwood, Preston is charged with murdering 26-year-old Jane Clough - the mother of their nine month old daughter Imogen - in the staff car park of Blackpool Victoria Hospital on Sunday night.
The former 17st bouncer, known as Jonny, is alleged to have cut her throat as she walked to her car after working a shift at the hospital accident and emergency unit.
Her casualty colleagues fought in vain to save her life but doctors were unable to halt the flow of blood from two severed neck arteries.
A post-mortem examination showed the young mum, who grew up in Chorley and Whittle-le-Woods, died of multiple stab wounds.
Vass, who has two other children from his marriage to another nurse, wore a blue T-shirt for the two-minute hearing.
Martine Connah, prosecuting, successfully asked the magistrates to remand Vass in custody.
However, Vass is set to appear before Judge Patrick Russell at Preston Crown Court on Friday to apply for bail.
Vass's lawyer David Lawson did not indicate any plea by his client.
Vass was arrested at a house in Barrowford near Nelson, the morning after Jane died.
