First sight of £30m village centre

This is what the new £30m village centre at Buckshaw could look like after plans were submitted to Chorley Council.

Eden Park Developments submitted plans to build retail units, homes and a petrol station on the southern commercial area.

The developers would build a 35,000 sq ft food store with adjoining petrol station, a further 8,000 sq ft of retail floor space, a cafe and a bar or restaurant.

Eden Park Developments bought 20 acres of land off Buckshaw Avenue, which runs along the railway line and is identified in the Buckshaw Village masterplan as the 'southern commercial area'.

Managing director, Paul Cross, said phase one would take up eight acres and he hoped to have planning permission by January 2009, for work to start in spring on the 18-month project.

He said: "We hope to provide the amenities that a new village such as Buckshaw requires and which it is lacking at the moment.

The petrol station aspect of the application will be part of the food store and despite rumours of Booths coming to Buckshaw, the plans have been submitted without a main operator.

The plans also include 84 apartments and 24 residential dwellings. Interest in future phases has been expressed by health and fitness companies and nurseries.

Local councillor Mark Perks said: "My hopes are that this will provide residents with retail outlets in the form of restaurants and shops."
