Hosepipe ban breakers 'grassed up'
Residents are reporting neighbours spotted flouting the hosepipe ban.
Despite the recent floods and torrential rain, the ban on hosepipes imposed by United Utilities still stands and residents are being urged to cut back too.
Chorley Council has also seen a rise in the number of calls it has received about the hosepipe ban and is reminding people that they need to contact United Utilities for more details.
Counc Eric Bell, Chorley Council's executive member (places) said: "We have had a lot of calls from people not only asking about what the hosepipe ban covers but also people reporting others flouting the ban."
He added: "Everyone is being encouraged to cut the amount of water they use and although the ban doesn't yet affect us as a business, as a responsible council we too want to do our bit to save water.
"We're already reducing the amount of water we use from the way we water our tubs and hanging baskets to only washing our vehicles when necessary and cutting the amount of water used in our buildings."
United Utilities, which has imposed the hosepipe ban, offers plenty of water saving advice including:
* Taking a shower rather than a bath
* Reducing the time taken for a shower
* Not leaving taps running for example when cleaning teeth
* Using appliances such as dishwashers and washing machines with full loads only to reduce water usage
* Using a watering can only to water garden plants.
